As formally written in the Rehabilitation Act, the VRC has the following major responsibilities:

1.     Review, analyze and advise the vocational rehabilitation (VR) programs regarding  performance;

2.     In partnership with the VR unit, review state goals and priorities and evaluate the scope and effectiveness of the VR services;

3.     Assist with the State Plan, reports, needs assessment and evaluations;

4.     Review and analyze consumer satisfaction with VR services, agency functions, and employment outcomes achieved by eligible individuals served by VR;

5.     Coordinate activities of the VRC with the activities of other councils, e.g. State Independent Living Council, advisory panel established under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, State Developmental Disabilities Council, State Mental Health Planning Council, and State Workforce Investment Board.

In addition, the Council may perform any of, all of, or more than the following:  

1.      Entertain grant proposals, particularly if they concern disability and employment;

2.      Hear presentations from public, private, or community-based agencies about topics such as school programs and disability;

3.      Work on public relations activities to promote employer awareness and employment of people with disabilities;

4.      Receive complaints about accessibility problems in the workplace and help to resolve them.
