LIQUID LEAKING FROM TRUCK CARRYING CONTAMINATED MATERIAL FROM U.S. DOE FERNALD, OHIO SITE.

THE FOLLOWING FACSIMILE WAS RECEIVED FROM THE ARIZONA RADIATION REGULATORY AGENCY:

"AT APPROXIMATELY 4:00 PM THE AGENCY WAS INFORMED THAT A TRUCK WAS AT THE PETRO TRUCK STOP IN KINGMAN, AZ, AND WAS LEAKING A CLEAR LIQUID. THE SHIPPER IS U.S. DOE. THE MANIFEST INDICATES THAT THE SHIPMENT IS CONTAMINATED SOLID BUILDING MATERIAL. THE CONTAMINATION IS BELIEVED TO BE LOW ENRICHED (<5%) URANIUM. DOE ALBUQUERQUE IS RESPONDING TO THIS EVENT ALONG WITH THIS AGENCY. AZ DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY HAZMAT TEAM IN ALSO EN ROUTE.

THE NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION IV OFFICE IS BEING INFORMED OF THIS EVENT."

HOO NOTE: A RELATED REPORT WAS RECEIVED FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION'S NATIONAL RESPONSE CENTER. THE DOT REPORT STATES THAT THE CARRIER IS TRISTATE MOTOR TRANSIT CO., OF JOPLIN, MO. THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK NOTICED A SMALL DRIP FROM THE RIGHT QUARTER SECTION OF THE TRAILER.
