FIRE ON BNFL SHIP
Wednesday, March 27, 2002
A BNFL-owned ship, which has just had a refit completed, became the subject of a fire alert as it sailed along the Manchester Ship Canal.
It was on Monday that the Atlantic Osprey was sailing unladen, along the canal, when a fire broke out in the engine room.
Ali McGibbin, speaking on behalf of BNFL said the fire had involved hot oil and had been quickly brought under control.
She said the vessel had just had modifications carried out and was unladen when the fire was spotted.
BNFL has been refitting the ship for use carrying nuclear materials on the European and American routes.
