The U.S. Department of Energy has hired an independent contractor to evaluate the system in which employees involved in environmental cleanup operations at Oak Ridge can voice their concerns.
National Inspection and Consultants Inc. of Fort Myers, Fla., will look at the Employee Concerns Programs used by DOE employees, as well as workers at Bechtel Jacobs, the federal agency's environmental manager in Oak Ridge.
In the past, some Oak Ridge employees have said they feared retaliation if they used some of the telephone hot lines or complaint forms available to them.
The Florida firm also will examine similar systems at DOE's Paducah, Ky., and Portsmouth, Ohio, facilities.
