DOE report names Nevada as preferred site for depleted uranium disposal
Washington (Nuclear News Flashes) Aug. 4, 2000
A DOE report says the Nevada Test Site is the preferred disposal site for depleted uranium (DU) because of its "unique geohydrologic and institutional setting." The newly released report was prepared for DOE by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and addresses a number of issues that DOE will face in converting about 700,000 metric tons of DU to a more stable form suitable for long-term storage or disposal. The report, "ORNL Disposal Study: Assessment of Preferred Depleted Uranium Disposal Forms," is available at (www.NE.doe.gov) under the DUF6 link.
