Quarterly Meeting: Oregon Office of Energy and Handford Activists

The regular quarterly meeting between the Oregon Office of Energy and Hanford activists will be on Thursday, July 20, 4 p.m. at the State Office Building, 800 NE Oregon Street in Portland.

Mike Thompson of DOE and representatives of Bechtel Hanford Inc. will give a briefing on the Groundwater Vadose Zone Integration Project from 4:00 to 5:00 in Room 120 B. Hopefully someone will show up who can give us the nonestablishment point of view. What we really need to know is the present and future impact of Hanford groundwater contamination on the Columbia River and the salmon who spawn in the Hanford Reach.

Starting at 5 p.m. OOE staff will conduct a "focus group" on the draft programmatic environmental impact statement (PEIS) for the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF) in Room 140. The draft PEIS is scheduled to be released on July 24. What this focus group will accomplish I'm not sure, since Portland has long since just said no to FFTF restart. Perhaps an advance look at the PEIS?

Unfortunately it is difficult for most of us who have jobs to attend meetings held at these times.

If you have questions or comments you can contact OOE's Susan Safford, susan.n.saford@state.or.us.
