Hanford 2002 budget meeting Feb. 10

The U.S. Dept of Energy will hold an informal public meeting on February 10, 6-8 p.m., at the Oregon State Office Building, 800 NE Oregon Street (near MAX and Lloyd Center) on Hanford's 2002 cleanup budget. This is the earliest in the budget process that the public has ever been invited to give input. DOE wants to know what our cleanup priorities are before it starts budget talks with Hanford contractors.

Hanford Watch public meeting Feb. 19

Hanford Watch will be holding a public meeting to discuss our goals for 2000 on Saturday, February 19, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the downtown Portland public library meeting room (to the right of the entrance). The library is at 801 SW 10th, between Yamhill and Morrison. We hope you will come and share your ideas about how we can best encourage Hanford cleanup.

Tank waste open house Feb. 24

"What we have is a slow motion disaster."
Dirk Dunning, Oregon Office of Energy

Nuclear waste stored in aging tanks at Hanford threatens the economy and environment of the Northwest. Cleanup is proceeding, but shortfalls in Congressional funding may hold up completion until it is too late.

The Washington State Department of Ecology and the United States Department of Energy Office of River Protection are holding an Open House to discuss tank waste treatment. Please join us.
