(PADUCAH) -- The Justice Department will take soil samples to test for hazardous waste near the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. That's after recent claims of radioactive contamination in the public wildlife areas surrounding the plant. Trenches will be dug around a drainage ditch that allegedly leaked dangerous chemicals from the federal government-operated uranium enrichment facility. A lawsuit filed in August claims the plant operators knew about pollution at the plant and related health problems affecting employees, but did not act, in order to keep collecting Millions of dollars in bonuses.
