(BARNWELL) -- It's going to cost western states more to ship nuclear waste to South Carolina. Starting next year, the Southwestern Low-Level Radioactive Waste Compact Commission plans to begin charging its member states fees to process applications for permission to ship waste to Barnwell or to a disposal site in Utah. South Carolina currently accepts waste from across the country at the Barnwell facility.
