Concerns Raised Over Nuclear Waste - (NEW HILL) -- An environmental activist group is citing new federal reports as it raises concern over the expansion of a high level nuclear waste storage site near the Wake- Chatham County line. Carolina Power and Light has applied to use two existing storage pools at the Shearon Harris plant to store fuel rods from three other reactors. But Jim Warren with the group ``N-C Warn'' says a 1997 Nuclear Regulatory Commission report shows that the chances of an accident are 12 times greater that previously thought. C-P-and-I spokesman Mike Hughes says storage units are built to withstand all known weather and environmental conditions... and even some that are unknown.
