Note to News Directors and Editors;

Reminder: The U.S. Department of Energy's Yucca Mountain Site Characterization Office is hosting public hearings to accept public comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for a Proposed Repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. Two of these hearings will be held at the following locations and times:

  • Monday, September 27th at the Amargosa Valley Community Center 821 East Farm Road, Amargosa Valley, Nevada 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

  • Thursday, September 30th at the Bob Ruud Community Center, 150 North Highway 160, Pahrump, Nevada 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The first hour of each hearing will include a brief overview of the Draft EIS and a question and answer session. The remainder of the hearing will be reserved for public comment. The public may schedule a time to provide oral comments by calling 1-800-967-3477, or register at the hearing. If you are unable to attend this public hearing, please write, fax, or E-mail your comments by February 9, 2000, to:
